International Conference on Management of Technology
Cairo, Egypt, March 14-17, 1999

 

The 8th International Conference on MOT was held in Cairo, Egypt, March 14-17, 1999. The conference was a great success due to the effort of many organizations. The conference was held under the auspices of the Prime Minister of Egypt and the Honorary Chairmanship of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Conference Chairs were Dr. Tarek Khalil, Founder of IAMOT, Dr. Louis Lefebvre, President of IAMOT and Dr. Hussein El Gammal , Managing Director of the Social Fund for Development in Egypt.Program Directors were Dr. Yasser Hosni of UCF and Dr.Hassan El Laithy of V&E Engineering in Cairo.

The conference was attended by more than 300 participants from more than 30 countries. The conference publications included a book of abstracts and a CD containing 240 submitted papers. A two volume book was printed containing selected papers of pre- registered authors. Best papers were awarded to Dr. J.Niosi from Canada, and Dr. P.K. De from India.

Keynote speakers were Dr. Mofied Shehab, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Egypt, Dr. Vincent Batelle,Deputy Chief of Mission US Embassy in Egypt, Dr. Tarek Khalil, Founder IAMOT, USA, Dr. Louis Lefebvre, President of IAMOT, Canada, Dr. Hussein El Gammal, Managing Director SFD, Dr. Yasser Hosni, Professor, University of Central Florida, USA, Mr. Gamal Mubarak, Economist and membe US/Egypt President's Council, Senator Robert Kasten, forme US Senator , Wisconsin,Dr. Mohamed Abdel Wahab Former Minister of Industry and Mining, Egypt, Mr Paul Hollowell, President, OSHKOSH Defense, USA, Dr. Onno Omta, Professor, University of Groningen, The Netherland, Dr. Nejat Veziroglu, Director of Clean Energy Institute, USA.

Banquet speaker was Dr. Zahi Hawass, noted egyptologist , who gave an exciting and inspiring presentation about Egypt's ancient civilization and his newest archeological findings and escavation in the Pyramid Plateau. Attendees were also entertained by the American University student's Ffolklore Dance Group.

The Social Fund for Development in Egypt prepared a wonderful exhibit of egyptian handmade products and artifacts displayed in an exquisite setting-- a replica of ancient Egyptian temples and antiquity.

The conference was very well planned and organized by the Egyptian host committee headed by Dr. hassan El Laithy of V&E Engineering. Local logistics were organized by Dr, Sadek Eid of The American University in Cairo (AUC), with the help of a talented group of AUC Engineering students.
